Dionissi Aliprantis

Dionissi Aliprantis, PhD   ·   Dr. D is an economist who uses mathematical models and statistics to evaluate social programs. He is a Research Fellow at the Center for Economic Research on Governance, Inequality and Conflict at École Normale Supérieure (ENS) de Lyon. He has been actively involved in math education since 2011 and has authored the grades 7-12 textbook Math As Flexibility of Mind used in our summer camps and enrichment programs. Prior to founding The Math Movement, he worked with medical non-profits in Latin America, spent time evaluating community-driven development programs in rural Haiti, and taught recreational math to middle and high school students.


Axel Brandt

Axel Brandt, PhD   ·   Axel is a mathematician on faculty at John Carroll University. His scholarly efforts focus on facilitating meaningful learning experiences for students. When not in a college classroom, he enjoys enriching K-12 classrooms with active explorations of advanced mathematics at an accessible level.


Lisa Longino

Lisa Longino   ·   Lisa is a dynamic educator and leader with over two decades of experience designing inclusive, K–12 health and physical education activities. As a STEM innovator, she passionately integrates math and science into sports through her "Neuronasium", a space where students thrive physically and intellectually. A former athletic director, adjunct professor, and Department of Education grant reviewer, Lisa empowers students, parents, and educators across diverse communities. She is a proven advocate for equity in education, blending instructional technology, multicultural awareness, and college readiness into every initiative. Lisa is driven by a mission to inspire academic achievement, self-efficacy, and a love for lifelong learning.


Serena Newburger

Serena Newburger, MEd   ·   Serena is a 6th grade math and science teacher at Southview Middle School in the Lorain City School District. She has taught elementary and middle school math for the last 9 years. She has her Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Teaching from Bowling Green State University. As The Math Movement’s Program Coordinator, she is excited to meet all of the campers and work alongside the counselors. She wants to share her passion for mathematics with everyone at camp. Prior to camp, she ran the Lego League, Science Fair, tutored all ages in mathematics, and presented at a state-wide STEM conference. In her professional career, Serena was also the math department leader where she ran meetings about the school's curriculum and ways to incorporate differentiation in the math classroom with her colleagues in grades 6-8.


Kennethia Stewart

Kennethia Stewart   ·   Kennethia teaches senior math at Saint Martin de Porres High School in Cleveland's inner city. She has taught high school for the past three years. She graduated from Saint Martin de Porres High School and then went on to John Carroll University to major in political science. Kennethia adored volunteering at schools, tutoring math and English. Kennethia believes math is where the truth and beauty mean the same thing.


Andrew Edwards

Andrew Edwards   ·   Andrew is a Ph.D. candidate in mathematics at CWRU and chair of the department's Math Grad Student Association. He enjoys sharing in mathematical conversations with students of all ages. During the academic year, he serves as a leader for the Saturday Morning Tutoring Program at the Church of the Covenant. One of his great joys is being part of "lightbulb moments" when students realize the depth of their own problem-solving abilities.
